All sites listed in this report are dry much more often than flowing. These sites are used for flood warning purposes and as such low flow monitoring has not been a priority. Due to difficulties with site access during flow events, gaugings are sporadic, while the highly dynamic sand beds mean instruments sometimes indicate flow where none occurred. This is an inherent difficulty with monitoring in desert areas. As such all mean monthly discharges are likely to over represent actual discharge. As all dry season flows in the Roper River are discharged from the Tindal Limestone Aquifer 170km upstream, the Roper River looses water through ET and extraction over the 170km distance between Elsey Station (G9030013) and Red Rock (G9030250).
