There are two options to participate in the Inquiry’s community consultation program:

Formal hearingHearings are available to members of the community, organisations or stakeholders who wish to make a formal presentation to the Inquiry panel. Please note, each hearing will be streamed live to the Inquiry’s website and will be open to the media and the public. Presenters are invited to:
Feedback and information gathered during the hearing will be used by the Inquiry as evidence and will be included in the interim report. When it is released, the public will be invited to have their say on the interim report. PresentationA projector and microphone will be provided for the presenter to use. All submissions and presentations submitted to the inquiry will be published on the inquiry’s website. Time allocationA maximum of 30 minutes will be allocated to each registered person/group, which includes 10 minutes for for questions by the panel.The time limit will be strictly enforced. After 15 minutes, presenters will be given a warning that they have 5 minutes left. After 20 minutes, presenters will be told that their time has expired. ProtocolInquiry Chair, Justice Rachel Pepper will facilitate the hearing proceedings. This is a formal event and to get the most out of it for everyone, people are asked to behave respectfully. RegistrationRegistration is open until Friday 3 March 2017. Registration may include one or multiple people presenting per session, but all persons attending a hearing must register before Friday 3 March 2017. Confirmation will be provided following registration. Translation services may be provided upon request when registering. MediaMedia may attend the hearings and can take footage or photos as required, while not impeding the process of the hearing. Media will also have an opportunity to ask questions of the Inquiry Chair before and after the scheduled hearings. |

The Inquiry seeks to obtain the views of the community on hydraulic fracturing of shale gas reservoirs and associated activities. This session is an opportunity for the inquiry to engage with a wider cross section of the community in the Northern Territory. Feedback and information gathered during the meeting will be used by the Inquiry as evidence and will be included in the interim report. When it is released, the public will be invited to have their say on the interim report. ProgramThe community meeting is designed to maximise participation from all the individuals who attend. Following welcome and introduction by the Inquiry’s Chair Justice Rachel Pepper participants will be divided into small groups to enable a facilitated discussion. RegistrationThe community meetings are open to all members of the public and registration is not required. However, for planning purposes registration is strongly encouraged. People who registered prior will be given priority. Registration on arrival is subject to venue capacity. ProtocolInquiry Chair, Justice Rachel Pepper will facilitate the hearing proceedings. This is a formal event and to get the most out of it for everyone, people are asked to behave respectfully. RecordingNotes will be taken during the meeting and a summary will be made available on the Inquiry’s website. MediaMedia are welcome to attend the community sessions and will have an opportunity to ask questions of the Chair before and after the meeting. No cameras or recording devices will be allowed once discussion is underway. |
